That Time I Talked To Gwar (Audio)

Metal Blade Records

Metal Blade Records

So I think we tend to go overboard when famous people die. We make them way more talented and way more important than they actually were when they lived. It’s an odd thing, I don’t usually get but I have found myself listening to a healthy dose of Gwar (if there is such a thing) and Oderus Urungus/Dave Brockie will be missed. Metal (of which I’m a HUGE fan) can take itself so seriously which has never made sense to me because metal is so unintentionally funny sometimes. Dave saw that and masterfully used it to mold one of the most unique bands in any genre. I did a phone interview with Oderus about several years ago (one of a few) when the phone connection got all weird..and he went on a fantastic rant blaming Dick Cheney for trying to silence him. I think it’s plausible. I can’t imagine Cheney was a fan.

Bits & Snatches Quickie: Short Names, Bro App, Spider Face Edition (Audio)

In this Bits & Snatches Quickie I will regale you with information on a new study that claims we don't trust people with long names, an app that perpetuates the 'all guys is so dumb and uncaring' stereotype and a really stupid way to deal with arachnophobia involving ink and a guy's face.

Don't forget to subscribe to my full length podcast in Stitcher and/or iTunes and throw me a rating. A good one, preferably. Buddy.

Metallica, Lang Lang ‘One’ Rehearsal Video Released (Video)

I've always been fascinated by video like this. I think it's cool to see creative people create their creations. This is like watching one of those cooking shows but instead of food, all the ingredients are ROCK.

Obviously this is Metallica so some people are just going to hate it out of the gate because that's how you do. Hater.

Since their performance on the Grammys I've spent some time listening to Lang Lang's stuff and he's really great. PLUS, his first name and last name are the same. That's not just easy for him, it's easy for all of us. I have a lot of crap to remember on a  given day and I can appreciate the kind gesture his parents made by naming giving him the same first name as his last name. You should do that for your next kid: Johnson Johnson or Smith Smith. Make it easy on all of us.

Metallica is/are working on the follow-up to 'Death Magnetic'. They're probably doing it RIGHT now. Whoa.

New 311 Sounds Like….311 (AUDIO)

311 will be releasing their new record Stereolithic on 3/10/14. Just kidding, it's coming out on 3/11. Have they not done that before? If not, why? Fans who pre-ordered via PledgeMusic get to join the band and will receive royalties on the entire 311 catalog in perpetuity (thanks Shark Tank). Pledgers are also entered to win Skype calls and drumsticks and that kind of stuff. The royalty thing isn't true. Is any of this true?
