New Music Tuesday (Posted On A Wednesday) 11-27-13

This will be an abbreviated version as we're about to hit the road and head to the in laws for Thanksgiving. That means you'll have to do some work for this one, buddy. I feel like this is a give a man a fish, teach a man to fish situation. I'm just going to list a few cool records to check out. Maybe enjoy them as you head to YOUR in laws.

Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Chanukah!

Warner Bros. Records

Warner Bros. Records

Billie Joe Armstrong & Norah Jones "Foreverly"

I've been looking forward to this one for a while and it doesn't disappoint. Great stuff. I'd like to see more artists make records like this.

SubPop Records

SubPop Records

Shearwater "Fellow Travelers"

This is a band I was unfamiliar with. I especially dig the female vocals on this record.

Virgin/ Universal Records

Virgin/ Universal Records

A Perfect Circle "Stone & Echo"

This live album was recorded at Red Rocks- the world's greatest venue. It sounds pretty great. I'm assuming it's been produced up like most 'live' records but I don't care. It's really good. I like that the live versions aren't carbon copies of the album versions. Maynard sings good.

Nuclear Blast Records

Nuclear Blast Records

Generation Kill "We're All Gonna Die"

A cool thrashy band. The singer, Rob Dukes is also the current Exodus singer.

Southern Lord Records

Southern Lord Records

Lumbar "The First And Last Days Of Unwelcome"

Man, Southern Lord Records is another one of those kick ass record labels who continually put out amazing stuff from bands I hadn't heard of before. This band features members of Yob, Iamthethorn , They Shall Take Up Serpents and many more. It's doomy awesomeness.

Tidal Arms

Tidal Arms

Tidal Arms "Tidal Arms"

Very cool experimental heavy rock stuff. Former From Autumn To Ashes drummer/singer Francis Marks started this band. Check it out. It's good.

Okay. That'll do 'er. Time to hit the road. Oh, check the new Bruce Springsteen single too. It's a cool song and Tom Morello plays on it. Have a great holiday, brochachos!

Chicago Bears Fan Foot Race (Video)

As a life long, die hard Chicago Bears fan, I am constantly being let down. It ain't easy being a Bears fan. This year is among the more disappointing years in recent memory. I always take solace in the fact that some people are Vikings fans. They have it way worse. The Vikings are almost always terrible. Really bad. AWFUL.

And then there are the Jacksonville Jaguars who exist solely to make fans of ANY OTHER team feel better about their team.

This video is pretty symbolic of the Bears season in general. Started off pretty well...seems to be ending not as well. That said, I will never not be a fan because......yeah I don't know. I just won't never not. I won't never not.

Go Bears.

Maybe next year.

Re-sign Urlacher you dicks.

A Perfect Circle Combine Ozzy And The Cure (Link)

Virgin/ Universal Records

Virgin/ Universal Records

A Perfect Circle is/are giving you various options for your holiday gift giving. Super cool of them. With the release of their greatest hits album 'Three Sixty' earlier this week and the release of the live package (I'll show you a live package!) 'Stone And Echo'  this Tuesdayyou really have no excuse for not buying something APC- related. I mean, what else do you want from them? You're really needy. Kind of clingy too.

They're already allowing you to stream the whole thing too.

Well, guess what? They're giving you even MORE with a free stream of their 'Diary Of A Madman / Love Song' mash-up. It lasts 15 minutes so maybe get to work and THEN listen on the man's dime. Damn the man.

Stream it here.

Somebody Get Jax An iPhone

FX Networks

FX Networks

So as Sons Of Anarchy nears the end of it's mostly awesome run (that season set in Ireland was awful...O'Awful) I have a few observations/questions about the show that must be answered.

First an observation: Jax's ass has GOT TO BE the most viewed male ass in the history of television (I'm not counting political debates in that equation...ZING!). There haven't been many JaxAssless episodes. I'm sure some weirdo keeps track that sort of thing so hit me with the Jax Ass Data, weirdo. The question I have is why do ALL of the characters use flip phones? No smart phones for Sam Cro? Why? As a non criminal, I don't know if there is a criminal reason for not wanting the ability to play Plants Vs. Zombies at any given moment. Is it a disposable phone situation? If so, can't someone make a disposable smartphone? Oh, if you know that answer you are totally a criminal. You are of ill repute. The illest. I do know from watching another great show, The Wire, that you refer to disposable phones as 'burners' so that's what I call them when I hang out with people I feel may be of the aforementioned ill repute. I also never wear shirts with sleeves when I hang out with the ill reputers. Bad guys HATE sleeves.

I understand not wanting Tig to have a smartphone because he'd be CONSTANTLY viewing some super skeezy porn and that's just not safe for a guy who's (whom's?) chief mode of transportation is a motorcycle. You couldn't let Juice have a smartphone because he'd be crying even more than he is now if people posted mean things on his Facebook Wall. Jax is the president though. Dude should have an iPhone.

I've heard there may be some sort of prequel show being discussed that would chronicle the story of JT and how the MC got started, which would be pretty righteous. Hopefully.

I don't really know how to end this post.

New Music Tuesday On A Wednesday 11-20-13

NEW Music releases are virtually non-existent this time of year so I may not be doing many of these betwixt now and early 2014. There are a couple I want to highlight though. Are you putting together a list of your favorites from 2013? I am. If you are, I'd love to see yours. Yours being your list. Pervo.

Here are some records worth exploring for the week of 11-19-13:

Virgin / Universal Records

Virgin / Universal Records

A Perfect Circle 'Three Sixty'

So I MAY have posted something about not liking greatest hits records. I still don't but at least this one has some cool stuff on it. You definitely want to go with the 'Deluxe' version. If you buy the deluxe version, Maynard will come to your house and get you all hooched up on wine and you guys will watch the new Puscifer DVD together. That alone is worth it. You also get a few extra tracks AND a black cover instead of a white one. I don't know. I still wouldn't buy this but they are all fantastic songs. In more APC news, Stone & Echo the live collection recorded at Red Rocks (the world's greatest venue) will be released next week. You can stream it now at Consequence Of Sound.

Century Media Records

Century Media Records

Insomnium 'Ephemeral'

I mention this EP not so much because I love the EP but because I love the band. This EP has 4 tracks on it but it feels like one song with some (albeit cool) instrumental stuff. Technically there are four songs though. Technically. Check out their 2006 release 'Above The Weeping World' to see how cool this band really is.

Tee Pee Records

Tee Pee Records

Harsh Toke 'Light Up And Live'

I had never heard of this band before yesterday but when I saw they were on the ALWAYS righteous Tee Pee Records I knew they were worth a listen. You can count on Tee Pee records man. Such a cool label. Anyway, this band is jamtastic. There are 4 tracks here as well but the disc still clocks in at around 40 minutes. Check these guys and check some of the other artists on Tee Pee Records. Do it for you.

Loma Vista Records

Loma Vista Records

Ghost B.C. "If You Have Ghost"

I've written extensively on Ghost. I always suggest listening to their "Opus Eponymous" record if you're new to the band but this Dave Grohl produced covers EP is cool and if you're going to release a cash grabby record for the holiday season I prefer this to a greatest hits record any day. Also if anyone in the Ghost organization is reading this, I'd like to be a Nameless Ghoul. Say when and I'll be there.

And that's it. That's the list. I always want to know what you're listening to. Tell me here.
